I really love photographing grad portraits. I enjoy taking young men and women who are about to embark on a new phase of life, and showing them how beautiful they are. I like to commemorate all of their achievements they have made in high school and I like to look forward with them as they set out to define a place in this world for themselves. I like to hear their stories, I understand the indecision of what to do after school, and I truly admire those with a firm outline of what they are doing after high school. I want to celebrate this moment in time with them and I want to cheer them on as they step out into the real world.
Because of how much I enjoy working with grads, I chose to enter a portfolio in grad portraits to the Professional Photographer’s of Canada. I found it very fitting that with this portfolio, more than any others that I have submitted, required the most work and determination from me to find success as that is what is required of a grad. Hard work, determination, setting goals and achieving dreams, opening doors and finding new paths are all a part of life’s journey, whether you are a grad, or a Mom with four kids trying to push yourself creatively.
To all of my Class of 2011 grads, may each of you find your dreams along a path marked with good friends, supportive family and determination, may you never forget to make new dreams to go after, and may you have the courage to find your way if darkness falls. Best of luck!
