Family Portrait Session

We went home to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving with my family. It was my children’s and my husband’s first ever Canadian Thanksgiving celebration in Canada, and it was my first in eleven years! Needless to say, we were all excited about the long weekend!

While in Mannville for the weekend, I photographed Hugo and Jessie! It was yet another humble reminder to me of what I have desparately missed for the past 11 years. When Brian and I arrived at Hugo and Jessie’s farm for our session, we were quickly usshered into their home and invited to sit down for coffee and a visit! I had to smile at this because I have become used to arriving at a family’s home and getting right down to the session. But this is rural Alberta, where life depends more on making time for family and friends than rushing along to the next activity. I have found that in the great rush of things, I have missed this pace of life. I miss sitting down and actually taking the time to really visit with friends and family. I very much enjoyed sitting down and getting to know Hugo and Jessie a little better before we went outside to photograph them!

Hugo and Jessie asked me to do a “family” session with Buster the dog and their cat. Buster was absolutely terrified of us and he would have nothing to do with having his picture taken. The cat put on her airs and refused to cooperate with the camera! She was far more interested in laying in the sun than having her portrait done. We never did manage to get a portrait of all four of them together, but I think we got some wonderful portraits of Hugo and Jessie!

Thank you Hugo and Jessie for having us in for coffee and allowing us to meet your family!
