“One half of knowing what you want is knowing what you must give up before you get it.” ~Sidney Howard
“If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else.” ~Lawrence J. Peter
Four years! As hard as it is for us to believe, it has now been four years since we crossed our fingers and sent off my application to Hallmark. Four years since we started to dream with our eyes wide open! I remember that day well actually. I held the application in my hands after devouring all the information in the catalogue and I looked at my husband and said there is no way this will work, it would take a miracle! I laid down the application and told him it wasn’t worth the $100 fee to send it in because how could we make it happen? I remember this moment vividly because I walked away from the application thinking “impossible”.
But the pull of the dream was strong. Brian and I wanted something different out of life than what we had and we decided we’d never see any change if we did not take a chance. We sent off the application and as they say, the rest is history. This journey has really taught me what happens when you have a dream and decide to go for it with everything you have. Our journey has not been easy, its been downright stressful and frustrating frequently but as I look back on the last four years, I still have a smile on my face. Together, we sacrificed life as we knew it, and took a path that was decidedly risky.
Our Dragon Hare is now a year old and going strong. Have we had growing pains? Of course, but those seem small in comparison to achieving this dream we had first believed to be impossible! To all of our clients, to all of you who come and read this blog (and then call me to complain when there are no new posts for awhile!), to my colleagues and instructors that continue to inspire me, to the communities that support us, and our vendors that make our work look good, we thank you from the bottom of our heart. Here’s to miracles, determination, hard work, and dreaming with our eyes wide open!
I needed a new PR portrait for the Professional Photographer’s of Canada – Alberta’s website. I am no more fond of sitting in front of my camera than my clients are, but when you have a Brian around, the smiles slip out easily!
