My card making adventures began because of two facts. The first is that I love to take photographs of flowers and butterflies. I am fascinated by their colour and intricate patterns. I have a ton of such pictures and my family knows that if we pass by a garden, I am a lost cause until I have exhausted every angle on every flower in the garden! The second fact is that I was simply too frugal to pay $5 plus on one card in a store. I love to send cards to a special someone that is on my mind, but with a growing family I couldn’t justify the cost!
So, since I had a whole collection of flower and butterfly images that I love, I was inspired one day to sit down and make my own card that supported the image. I made one and loved it, then I made another, and another! Soon, I was getting requests from people wanting to buy my cards! This actually was my first source of income from photography! I love sitting down and coming up with a truly unique design that will bring a smile to someone’s face.
I also make our Christmas card each year. It takes me months to think up a theme for our card, then I take our portraits to fit the theme and build the card around it. I always try to use unusual colours, combinations that you do not normally see at Christmas just to help the card stand out.

This year, I also began getting requests from clients for Christmas cards. I want Dragon Hare Studios to be unique and different though, so rather than creating a standard photo card, I turned our recent client’s, Leslie and Marcia, image into a real card. It turned out so pretty, I just love the colours!
