Dragon Hare Studios is committed to image excellence! Each year, we submit images to the Professional Photographer’s of Canada for print competition and a peer portfolio review. The reason we submit to these image critiques is not to win awards, but instead to push our technically skills beyond what they were last year. With every critique, we receive valuable feedback on our images which we take to heart. Each year, we become stronger photographers which means, each year, our client’s story become stronger!
Master of Photographic Arts:
In 2013, Kim earned her Master of Photographic Arts (MPA) designation from the PPOC. To earn an MPA, the photographer must earn merits by submitting prints to print competition and accreditations. Only successful images earn merits. The photographer must give back to the photographic industry by completing volunteer positions within the PPOC. Kim completed her service merits by serving as the membership chair for Alberta, social media chair for Alberta, and the national social media chair. Kim was instrumental in helping the PPOC set up their online presence and creating the policies for members guiding online practices.
Kim receives her MPA award at the national PPOC convention held in Winnipeg in April of 2014. Kim received her Craftsman of Photographic Arts, the first designation offered by the PPOC, in 2012.
Every year, the PPOC holds provincial and national print competitions. An image in print competition must stand up to strict standards for composition, lighting, colour balance and it’s story telling ability. Every image is judged by a panel of six master photographers and an image has one of four possible marks to earn: not accepted, accepted, merit and excellence. There are 21 categories of images to enter and the top scoring image from each category wins the coveted “Best in Class” crystal trophy!
